Diablo IV Expansion “Vessel of Hatred” Releases in Late 2024 With a New Class

The first Diablo IV expansion will be called “Vessel of Hatred,” a title possibly linked to Mephisto’s alias of the “Lord of Hatred.”

Diablo IV has announced its first paid content update — an expansion titled “Vessel of Hatred” slated for late next year. The announcement during BlizzCon 2023 came as a surprise, since the game recently released its second season. Blizzard’s announcement, however, leaves a lot of speculation — since the expansion is still in its “early” stages.

Blizzard plans to release similar paid expansions for Diablo IV on an annual basis, confirmed franchise general manager Rod Fergusson in an interview with Dexerto. “When you look at the launch of the game and this first season, we see that as building a foundation on which we can build for the future. So, as we look at our quarterly seasons, and we look at our annual expansions, those are the things that we’re really focused on for our live service,” he said.

“Vessel of Hatred” takes place in the jungle region of Nahantu, and will focus on Lilith’s dad Prime Evil Mephisto — who ran off after the events of the base game. And about the new never-before-seen class: A datamine from a few weeks back stated that the new class will be called “Spiritborn” — a nature-based warrior using a glaive.

Diablo IV’s second season — called “Season of Blood” — released on Oct. 17 earlier this year, giving players vampiric powers just ahead of Halloween. This is the company’s “quarterly season.” The so-called “annual expansions,” on the other hand, are an entirely new affair — since both Diablo 2 and Diablo 3 never got more than one full expansion.
