The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen has been on the wait list of fans ever since we witnessed the epic battle between Itadori and Hanami. We finally have some news regarding the release of the anime.

The second season of the anime will be released in 2023, confirmed during an event in Japan. This means that the show could debut during one of three major anime release seasons: Winter 2023 (starting Jan.), Spring 2023 (starting April), or Fall 2023 (starting Oct.).

The show will most likely hit the screens in Fall 2023 since MAPPA currently has its hands full with the third and final part of Attack on Titan’s final season as well as the release of Chainsaw Man. Jujutsu Kaisen has been one of the most successful anime for the studio, and they are likely to keep their standards high for the next season as well.

What Will Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 Be About?

The official Jujutsu Kaisen Twitter account shared the first teaser visual for the second season, featuring the almighty Satoru Gojo and the primary antagonist of the anime: Satoru Getou. All visible in the poster is their classmate Shoko Ieiri. This visual was released just before the Crunchyroll release of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie, which serves as a prequel to the series, released theatrically in Japan on Christman Eve last year.

During the TOHO 10th Anniversary event tonight in Japan, the special Jujutsu Kaisen stage revealed the next teaser visual for the second season featuring Gojo Satoru, Yuji Itadori, Megumi Fushiguro, and Nobara Kugisaki.

The first poster is more than a simple teaser, it gives us a glimpse of the second season. Besides the three named previously, the visual also shows a fourth character whose identity remains obscure due to a set of fingers appearing over the top frame right behind the series’ title.

The second visual arrived with the subtitle “The Shibuya Incident.” It was also confirmed that the anime will run over two consecutive parts that will make up the second season.

The teasers indicate that the anime will jump right into the action with the story of Gojo and Getou, and what led each to their respective paths.

The first season of the anime set up the universe of curses and introduced us to the main characters: Itadori Yuji and Fushiguro Megumi, along with the strongest character in the set universe: Gojo. We saw the introduction of some of the main antagonists of the shows as well, particularly Mahito. The series ended with the Death Painting arc, and the second season is expected to pick things right up.

The official synopsis of season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen via Crunchyroll:

“Yuji Itadori is a boy with tremendous physical strength, though he lives a completely ordinary high school life. One day, to save a classmate who has been attacked by curses, he eats the finger of Ryomen Sukuna, taking the curse into his own soul. From then on, he shares one body with Ryomen Sukuna. Guided by the most powerful of sorcerers, Satoru Gojo, Itadori is admitted to Tokyo Jujutsu High School, an organization that fights the curses… and thus begins the heroic tale of a boy who became a curse to exorcise a curse, a life from which he could never turn back.”

The second season of Jujutsu Kaisen is expected to adapt the next two arcs of the anime, namely the Gojo’s Past arc and the Shibuya Incident Arc.

Do You Need To Watch The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Movie

While Jujutsu Kaisen 0 served as a prequel to the original anime, we certainly recommend you watch the movie. You can, however, continue with the anime without missing much.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 introduces us to Itadori’s senior Okkotsu Yuta, a special-grade jujutsu sorcerer. Yuta will be an integral part of the anime as the story progresses. The movie will fill you in on Yuta’s past, along with a glimpse of his powers that led to his reputation as one of the strongest jujutsu sorcerers alive.

The first season mentions the character at times, but we never really got an introduction. The post-credits scene of the movie sets up the future of the anime, as Yuta heads back to Japan to jump right into the action. It was certainly one of the better movies based on anime, and you won’t be disappointed with any singular aspect of it.

When and Where Can You Watch Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

As the first season of the anime was released in Oct. 2020, you can expect to see the second season be released around the same time in 2023.

With their merger with FUNimation, Crunchyroll has gained access to an even more expansive library of anime. These include cultural phenomena like Demon Slayer, Overlord, and yes, Jujutsu Kaisen. This means that you can expect the second season of the anime to stream on Crunchyroll, which is better than ever considering the streaming platform’s recent cuts in subscription prices.
