A Look at the 2nd Season of Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 is one of the most anticipated anime of the year, and we hope MAPPA does not pull an Attack on Titan on us.
Teaser Visuals of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen is up there with Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as one of the most popular anime of the decade. Over-the-top action scenes are what make the anime, but the recent Jujutsu Kaisen 0 film opened up new aspects of the story to the viewers.

With the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen finally in view, here’s everything you need to know about the immensely popular shonen anime.

Ever since the first season ended, fans have been assured in some form that a second season is happening. After confirming a second season after the screening of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 theatrical film, the makers of the show announced during the Jump Festa 2023 that the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen will be premiering in July 2023, without giving any concrete release date.

The show will air for two consecutive “cours” (a cour refers to a Japanese broadcast season, which is three months long), which means that the show could run for 25 episodes and end sometime in December or January.

The series follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who for some reason is among the greatest athletes in the world, but apparently has no interest in pursuing his talent. Things take a turn for the worse when the young student gets entangled in the world of curses, after unwittingly becoming host to the most powerful curse spirit in existence: the King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s OP is a great way to get a quick look at the anime (and it’s just a great song)!

The events lead to Itadori becoming an apprentice “jujutsu sorcerer,” one responsible for exorcising these curses. This opens up the world of some pretty versatile and complex powers, along with the introduction of the all-powerful Gojo Sensei.

The first season could be considered a prelude to future events, with the makers effectively setting up the universe of curses, introducing us to the powers of jujutsu sorcerers, and giving us a glimpse of the main antagonists of the series.

Since the anime will be split into two “cours,” the first is expected to adapt the Gojo’s Past arc of the manga, which as you might have guessed will show us the “origin story” of Satoru Gojo. While we won’t be spoiling much here, I have read the manga, and this is one of the most thrilling arcs of the series, and is what sets up a lot of the future events.

The creators of the show debuted a character reveal teaser for Gojo’s Past arc, introducing us to Toji Fushiguro and Ruji Amanai, two key supporting characters in the story. And yes, Megumi Fushiguro is involved here (at least to a certain extent).

The second cour will adapt the Shibuya Incident arc, which takes place immediately after the first season ends. Yuta Okkotsu, the protagonist of Jujutsu Kaisen 0, will also be making an appearance in this arc, which means that watching the movie can help get you up to speed with some of the quirks and abilities of the young sorcerer.

production and key staff

Considering how well MAPPA handled the animation and production of the first season as well as the film, its no surprise that they’re returning to produce the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen. It has not yet been confirmed whether Seong-Hu Park, who directed the first season as well as Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will be returning to direct the second season as well.

In terms of the voice cast, the entire main cast is set to reprise their roles. The voice actors for the new characters have not yet been announced, but I really wish Toji sounds the way he does in my head.

Crunchyroll was responsible for the simulcast of the series in most regions for the previous season and it’s likely that they’ll be responsible for streaming it outside Asia this time around as well. In regions like India, the series was made available on Netflix.

We will update where you can stream the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen as more details are revealed.

do you need to watch the jujutsu kaisen 0 movie before season 2 comes out?

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 serves as a prequel to the anime, and therefore it is not a crucial watch. However, we highly recommend you watch it, especially since it somewhat introduces Yuta Okkotsu, who is going to be a key figure in the near future.

The film featured beautiful animation, and the story itself was beyond what I expected from the Jujutsu Kaisen franchise. It was horrifying and heartwarming at times, and the ending surely makes it worth your time.
