The monster-hunting hunk is staying with Netflix in the long run, and even if he has lost his face over the course of three seasons, the streamer doesn’t want one of its most popular franchises to go to waste. While season 4 of “The Witcher” isn’t anywhere close to releasing, Netflix has announced that Geralt of Rivia will be returning in an animated setting — a movie titled “Sirens of the Deep,” based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “A Little Sacrifice.”

According to the streamer, the movie is set between episodes 5 and 6 of the first season. Doug Cockle — the voice of Geralt from “The Witcher 3” video game — will be reprising his role. And while there might be no Cavill or Hemsworth, Anya Chalotra and Joey Batey from the live-action series are set to voice their respective characters.

Here’s the basic premise:

Geralt of Rivia, a mutated monster hunter, is hired to investigate a series of attacks in a seaside village and finds himself drawn into a centuries-old conflict between humans and merpeople. He must count on friends — old and new — to solve the mystery before the hostilities between the two kingdoms escalate into an all-out war.

Netflix has previously attempted to expand the Witcher universe with the spinoff “Nightmare of the Wolf” and the prequel series “Blood Origin,” but neither has had anything substantial to add.

Since the live-action Witcher series premiered in 2019, it has spawned three seasons — with series star Henry Cavill walking out at the end of the third over creative differences. The showrunners have since expressed their intentions for at least two more seasons, choosing Liam Hemsworth to pick up Geralt’s sword.

“The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep” is expected to arrive on Netflix in late 2024.
