Along with the official trailer, the title of the movie was revealed as That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Scarlet Bond (Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Guren no Kizuna-Hen). Ever since season two of the show came to an end with an epic showdown between demon lords, we have been eagerly awaiting its resumption. While the movie is set to be a stand-alone, it will bring us all of the beloved characters from the anime, along with some new additions.

Fuse Developed an Original Story for Scarlet Bond

While the source material for the movie is not the light novel series, there’s good news: the original story for Scarlet Bond is written by Fuse, the creator of the light novel.

The movie shows Rimuru to be in his demon lord state, which confirms that the events of the movie take place sometime after season 2’s end.

The story will take place in a new country named Raja, located to the west of the protagonist’s nation. The movie revolves around Towa, a queen with “mysterious powers”, voiced by Riko Fukumoto (Love Me, Love Me Not).

Rimuru Tempest, a slime who evolved into a demon lord to save his friends. He and his friends established the Jura Tempest Federation, a land of monsters.

In Raja, a small country located to the west, A long-running conspiracy swirls around the mysterious power of the queen.

Then, Hiiro, a “Survivor of the Ogres”, suddenly appears in front of Rimuru and his friends. They are reunited with a man who used to be the brother of Benimaru and his friends.

The severed “scarlet bonds” now become the guiding light for a new fight.

The movie will introduce us to three pivotal characters, with the key to the story being Toma (voiced by Yūma Uchida). The series will also introduce us to Hiiro, another ogre survivor and an old acquaintance of Benimaru.

With Fuse developing the original story, fans are nothing but hopeful of epic battle scenes for the movie. Expectations are especially higher as the anime’s third season is expected to be announced soon after the movie is released.

From the trailer, it is apparent that the adventure awaiting Rimuru will be epic and the power of bonds might be tested.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Cast Returns

The creators have roped in Yasuhito Kikuchi to direct the movie, the man who brought Saint Seiya to life all the way back in 1986. Ryouma Ebata (Blue Exorcist, Gurren Lagann) returns as the character designer, and the show’s original voice cast returns to reprise their roles.

The theme song for the Scarlet Bond is performed by MindaRyn, titled “Make Me Feel better”.

What About That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime Season 3?

The second season of “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” was split into two parts, with the first airing in January 2021 and the second in June of the same year. As for the third season, no official announcement has been made yet.

While the official anime may not have made an appearance yet, we got a six-episode spinoff titled “The Slime Diaries” this year, which was a more comedic vibe than the usual action-packed story of the anime.

The previous season of the series started with the events of the sixth volume in the light novel series. With a total of 17 volumes already being written by Fuse, there’s a lot more to the story.

With the second season of the show having an 8.40 rating on MyAnimeList, there’s almost no doubt that we will be receiving an announcement regarding the third season soon, perhaps as soon as the movie is released.

The Story So Far

The Isekai anime follows the story of 37-year-old Satoru Mikami, an ordinary salaryman in Tokyo. Following a chance encounter with an acquaintance, he gets stabbed by a passing robber, dying on the spot.

Right before losing consciousness, a mysterious voice rings in his mind which is reciting a set of incomprehensible commands. After Satoru comes to himself, he realizes that he has been reincarnated in a fantasy world as the weakest creature of all: a Slime!

Apace with this realization, he learns that he has attained some special skills, with an ability called “Predator” being pivotal.

During his exploration, Satoru stumbles upon a dragon, Veldora who had been sealed at the site for the last 300 years after reducing a town to ashes. Satoru develops a liking for this dragon and likewise, after some time decides to use his skill Predator to consume Veldora along with his seal, with a promise to someday free him.

The anime received the “Anime of the Season” award in 2021 and the “Best Fantasy” in Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2022.
