Netflix’s 2022 Tudum event gave fans of the Witcher universe some big updates. First in line for release is the limited series prequel – The Witcher: Blood Origin, starring Michelle Yeoh (Tomorrow Never Dies). The series arrives on Netflix Christmas Day. The bigger news, however, is regarding the return of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia in the third season of The Witcher, set to arrive summer of 2023.

The Witcher 3 Will Explore The Relationship Between Ciri & Yennefer

The announcement gave no precise date, instead revealing a new teaser poster. The visual for The Witcher Season 3 shows a shattered Wolf medallion, worn by Geralt symbolizing the School of the Wolf, alongside a small bird, representing Ciri, his adopted daughter.

The Tudum event also gave us some behind-the-scenes look at the third season, along with a few words from the show’s main cast: Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Freya Allan (Cirilla). While not much about the plot was shared, the cast did tease how Ciri and Yennefer explore their relationship as the young princess trains under the latter’s mentorship.

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it. Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers. Instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever.”

The event also gave us a sneak peek into the spin-off – The Witcher: Blood Origin. The prequel had a symbol on its teaser art similar to the one we got for The Witcher. This may indicate that the series may set up some of the events taking place in the third season or the future. While this idea seems slightly far-fetched considering the new show is set more than a millennium before the original series, the magical world of Witchers does not leave anything out of the realm of possibility.

Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, and Freya Allan as Ciri will be accompanied by some new additions to the cast this season: Meng’er Zhang (Shang Chi) will play Milva, an archer and huntress. Robbie Amell (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) will play the elf guerrilla leader Gallatin; Hugh Skinner (Fleabag) will play the playboy Price Radovid; and Christelle Elwin (Bloods) will play Mistle, a member of a gang called the Rats.
